DAILY RECOLLECTION

HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS PRACTICE #5:
DAILY RECOLLECTION

This exercise is a great tool to help you recognize reactive patterns when you have a little distance from them, at the end of the day.

It's also a time to appreciate your finer moments and reinforce them. It is another way to build your experience of Core Energy.

The Daily Recollection draws the day to a close so you can sleep more soundly and wake up ready for a fresh start on a new day.

HOW TO PRACTICE THE DAILY RECOLLECTION:

1) SET ASIDE A FEW MINUTES AT THE END OF THE DAY: Before going to sleep, spend several minutes to recall your entire day, hour by hour, in terms of reactivity and core response.

2) FIND A QUIET PLACE BY YOURSELF: Relax. Sit quietly. Allow your breathing to slow down and expand deeply into your lower abdomen.

3) REVIEW YOUR DAY IN REVERSE: Maintain an attitude of passive receptivity and let the events and feeling tones of the day flow back to you. Start with how you feel in the present moment and work your way backward through time until you remember the feeling that you had when you woke up that day. Recall, in particular, times when you experienced the tension of reactivity and times or events when you felt the flow of core response, when things worked just right. Include in your recollection the general mood of different parts of the day or of the day as a whole. Focus on the internal feelings you had rather than simply noting the string of external events. For more info on reactivity and core response see The Three Rs exercise.

4) RECORD YOUR RESULTS: Briefly note your results in the Practice Log. You do not need to write down the events recounted in your Daily Recollection. Instead record the feeling tone of your day.

5) AFFIRM YOUR CORE ENERGY: Complete your Daily Recollection practice by affirming a quality of core energy such as: presence, peace, prosperity, trust, will, love, or wisdom. Feel the quality of the energy that you choose. Let that energy saturate every cell of your body. Say it to yourself several times before going to sleep.

It is important that you clear yourself at night so that you can begin the next day without any residual or unresolved energy patterns from the prior day. Often, feelings that we have waking up have to do with things left unresolved the day before. The Daily Recollection helps to process the day’s events and resolve things left up in the air. Drawing one day together as a whole helps you to wrap it up, let it go, and start fresh tomorrow.

One caution, however: Don't let Daily Recollection be a time to dwell on reactive thoughts. Let each event of the day come back to you to be recognized and felt, and then move on to the next earlier event. Let this be a time of intuitive remembering rather than dissection, analysis, and judgment. Let it be like picking flowers from the field of your day. See which ones stand out to you and gather them with care. Develop your powers of detached observation.
